Ceremonial Equity Policy

"At PRUC, we believe that God's love is for all. We affirm the right of all people to fully participate in all aspects of church life. The Minister(s) shall not refuse marriage, baptism, communion, confirmation, and funerals on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, race, class, age, and abilities."

Visiting ministers may preside or participate in these ceremonies with approval by the PRUC minister(s) and governance body. Any visiting presiders must follow our Ceremonial Equity Policy. These ceremonies can be held in the church sanctuary or in other locations as agreed upon.

Ceremonies at Park Royal United Church

Marriage

PRUC views marriage as a lawful union of two people blessed by God. Whether you are a current member or new to our community of faith, we welcome those who seek to include God as part of their union. Weddings at PRUC are held under the guidance of the United Church of Canada. Marriage is a legal matter governed by provincial law — a Marriage License from the Province of Prince Edward Island must be provided in advance.

Baptism

Baptism is a symbolic act that represents new life in God and welcomes all individuals into the church community. PRUC offers baptism to people of all ages and backgrounds, believing that God's love is not dependent on our understanding. Infants, children, and adults can be baptized. The United Church recognizes baptisms from any Christian denomination.

Communion

Communion is a symbolic meal shared by most Christian denominations. As upheld by the United Church of Canada, at PRUC we practice an open table — welcoming all who seek to love Jesus. No one will be turned away.

Confirmation

In the United Church, an individual becomes a full member through Baptism. Confirmation at PRUC is a personal decision to affirm and commit to one's faith. The church offers confirmation classes for both youth (12 and up) and adults, exploring United Church history, beliefs, practices, and individual faith.

Funerals

Park Royal United Church offers funeral services in Christian hope and faith, affirming God's love and care for all. We welcome and will host funerals for anyone, and will not dismiss anyone in mourning seeking comfort.

A Note on Marriage

Marriage is a legal ceremony governed by provincial law. In Prince Edward Island, the issuance of a Marriage License is regulated by the province. Our church honors these legal standards when preparing for marriage ceremonies.
